Who it may suit

  • Situations where your soil test and budget call for nitrogen only: 46 kg of N in every 100 kg of product.
  • We list it under paddock crops.
  • Crop-by-crop suitability is not something we have verified for this product. Use your soil test and agronomist, or Find my fertiliser for soil and pH-based nitrogen options.

Application calculator

How much of this product delivers a given amount of nitrogen, and what that costs. Working out the target? See the nitrogen rate calculator. The starting value is an example, not a recommendation.

Product to spread
109 kg/ha

Rate = target ÷ 46% nitrogen (N). Excludes freight, spreading, GST and any nitrogen lost to the air. Not a recommendation: always check with your agronomist before acting.

Nitrogen loss to the air (volatilisation): urea

  • Field-measured ammonia loss from broadcast urea on Australian cropping soils averaged 11.7% of applied N on fallow (range 5.4–27%) and 8.1% in-crop (range 0–29%).

    Source: GRDC 2021

  • Across 21 sites in the national GRDC project the median loss was 8% of applied N (range 0–48%); soils with CEC above 25 cmol/kg consistently lost less than 10%.

    Source: GRDC 2026

  • Banded or incorporated N should have negligible volatilisation in most cases. In one Queensland trial, drilling urea 5 cm deep kept loss to 1 kg N/ha or less per 100 kg N/ha applied.

    Source: GRDC 2022; GRDC 2026

What this does not show: These are results from a limited number of trials. Loss depends on soil, moisture, rain after spreading and how the urea is applied, and your paddock can fall outside the range.

See these ranges applied to your soil and pH in the comparison tool.
